Dear Russound Reseller:

We are writing to ask for your immediate help.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Russound has initiated a PRODUCT RECALL of certain lots of MCA-88 Multizone Controller Amplifiers shipped from Russound prior to March 17, 2023, which includes controller(s) you have purchased. COMPLIANCE WITH THIS RECALL WILL BE FULFILLED WITH A PRODUCT REPLACEMENT process.

This PRODUCT RECALL is due to an important issue related to the MCA-88 controllers that has recently come to our attention.

Certain internal electrical components of some manufacturing lots of the MCA-88 can overheat, presenting a fire hazard risk. While Russound has not received word of any injuries or property damage due to this issue, we are recalling all units from the affected manufacturing lots.

MCA-88s with a manufacturing lot code between 2047 and 2307 are affected by this recall. These units were sold to customers between January, 2021 and July, 2023. The manufacturing lot code is the first four digits of the product serial number. The serial number can be found on the product packaging, as well as on the product itself, on the front panel under the removable translucent front cover.

If the serial number starts with a number between 2047 and 2307, it is part of the recall.

Here are some example serial numbers for guidance:

Serial Number First four digits Is this between 2047 and 2307? Is this part of the recall?
19355363510101 1935 No No
23225363520012 2322 No No
20475363520154 2047 Yes Yes
22055363520251 2205 Yes Yes

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission requires Russound to contact each MCA-88 owner (distributors, dealers, resellers and consumers) about this product recall and provide instructions on how to mitigate any risk and participate in the recall. As such, Russound is asking that resellers provide us with the customer contact information or provide the recall information to those consumers who have purchased the recalled product. Please be assured that if you choose to provide us with the customer contact information, the information will be used solely for the product recall campaign.

HERE’S WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO:

Step 1: Notify Russound of any affected unsold units still in your inventory per our stop sale notice of July 18,
2023

These should be returned to Russound.

Step 2: Review your sales records for the MCA-88. Locate available sales information for the affected MCA-88 controllers in order to obtain customer contact information for as many affected units sold as possible.

Step 3: Post the attached Point of Sale Recall poster. If your business has a customer-serving location, the poster should be placed prominently in the area of your business where similar recall notices are posted.

Step 4: For each affected MCA-88 sold, either forward the attached end-user letter to the customer or complete the corresponding online customer contact information on russound.com/MCA88 which will automatically submit the information to Russound. This contact information is critical as Russound will attempt to contact all of your customers who have purchased an affected MCA-88 to notify them of this product recall and instruct them on the recall process.

Russound will send the attached sample end-user letter directly to all customers identified through this process.

Step 5: Be prepared to assist your customers regarding this voluntary recall. Once the information has been received by Russound, Russound will coordinate with you to send you a replacement MCA-88 unit(s) and to schedule a mutually convenient appointment time with your customer to go to their home, install the replacement MCA-88 and to remove the recalled MCA-88 for its return to Russound using the same shipping box and pre-paid shipping label that was included with the replacement unit.

End-users will be instructed on how to identify a recalled MCA-88 and to disconnect the product from its electrical supply until it has been replaced. All end-users that contact Russound for assistance will be referred to their original dealer/installer for assistance.

Please be aware that the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission will be monitoring the effectiveness of this product recall.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call Russound at (800) 638-8055, Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (Eastern time); visit the company’s website at https://www.russound.com/MCA88; send an email to recall@russound.com; or write to Russound/FMP, Inc., Attention: MCA-88 Recall, 200 International Drive, Suite 155, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
